January 19, 2007 (Saturday)- almost 38 students from the Laboratory School headed by the Lab. Sch. Student Council exclusively participated in the Iloilo River Clean-Up Drive with the theme: "Suba Ko, Tinluan Ko" spearheaded by ABS-CBN TV-10 Iloilo.
The activity started with a short program and preparation of cleaning materials in the Philippine Coast Guard Headquarters at Parola, City Proper and ended in the Promenade in front of Gaisano City, La Paz.
The students were accompanied by The 601st Squadron of the Philippine Coast Guards, Western Visayas United Motors Association and ABS-CBN Iloilo Reporters led by their News Head and Activity In-Charge, Ms. Gemma Villanueva and Station Manager Ms. Charie Ginete-Ilon.
Other organizations from the Laboratory School who joined were the Science Club, Math Club, Hi-Y Club, SAMAGFIL (Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Filipino) and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. Ms. Teen Earth 2007 Erica Calamba of I-Ilang-ilang was also one of the participants of the activity.
Among the Faculty members of the Lab. Sch. who participated were Mr. Ricky A. Quibingco, Mrs. Susan J. Tuburan and LSSC advisers Ms. Reah Ann C. Ambatang and Ms. Jo-Ann D. Apresto.
The activity then ended when the Station Manager thanked everyone and there were some picture taking with the ABS-CBN Personnel led by Ms. Ilon and Ms. Villanueva with John Mark Guda, Joyce Clavicillias, Jeniffer Garcia, Rhoda Garzon, and Nony Basco.
The participants then headed for their lunch at the La Paz Fundamental Baptist Church in Brgy. Mc. Arthur, La Paz, Iloilo City and took a little rest. After a short while before the "K.I.S.M.I.E." Program (a ministry for the youth) started, the officers and advisers had a little devotion and prayer with Youth Pastor Timothy and Curch Pastor Benjamin Equipado.
The LSSC sponsored the snacks for the 50 children from almost Three neighboring barangays of Divinagracia, Mc Arthur, and Aguinaldo of that "K.I.S.M.I.E." (Keep It Simple,Make It Enjoyable) session.
Although we were tired from the Clean-Up Drive in the morning, the day ended with a great smile in our faces and hearts seeing the charming children in the Feeding Program and we believe that we had made a great part in the conservation of the cleanliness of not just our river, but as well as our environment.
